LongHorn vs NestJS
NestJS is a structured, Angular-inspired framework for Node.js that runs on Express or Fastify, while LongHorn is a modular TypeScript framework on Hono that also runs on Bun, Deno and Cloudflare Workers. NestJS is established; LongHorn is an early alpha.
How they differ
| LongHorn | NestJS | |
|---|---|---|
| Runtimes | Node, Bun, Deno, Cloudflare Workers | Node.js |
| HTTP layer | Hono | Express by default, or Fastify |
| Dependency injection | Typed tokens and plain functions | Providers and modules, using decorators |
| Wiring | Explicit: your application imports and wires each module | Declared through modules |
| Maturity | Early alpha, first release on npm | Established |
Choose NestJS if
- You want a proven, opinionated structure for a large Node.js team.
- You prefer decorators and an Angular-style architecture.
Choose LongHorn if
- You want to run outside Node, including on Workers.
- You'd rather read your app's wiring as plain code, and can accept alpha status.
