Native Rust services
LongHorn can hand heavy computation to a separate native Rust service, reached over a typed, authenticated HTTP protocol. Rust is optional: ordinary TypeScript builds and generated projects do not compile it.
What exists today
- One working service: a report computation service, in
native/rust/reports. - It requires a bearer credential on every route and binds to loopback only.
- A typed client for it was checked from Node, Bun, Deno and workerd.
- It is a separate process, not another JavaScript runtime adapter.
Run the demo
From a clone of the repository, with the pinned Rust toolchain, one command starts the jobs app with Rust computing its reports, using random credentials.
rustup toolchain install 1.97.1 --profile minimal --component rustfmt
pnpm demo:rust-reportsNo performance comparison with TypeScript has been published, so this page does not claim one.
